The Rule It In test library

111 musculoskeletal examination tests from Rule It In, Rule It Out, each with the published accuracy figures that exist for it, and what a positive and a negative result mean. Free, from the publisher of the book.

How to read these pages

A test does not give a yes or a no. It moves the probability of a diagnosis up or down by a measured amount. LR+ says how much a positive result moves it up; LR− says how much a negative result moves it down. Above about 5 and below about 0.2 a test is doing real work. Between 2 and 0.5 it is barely worth the time. The verdict on each page uses those cut-offs, and a caution appears where the study behind the figures is weak.

Every figure comes from the study cited on the page, and the pages are kept in step with the book. If you find an error, tell us and it will be checked against the source.

One study, one test, once a month
